Commercial Vineyard Development: Napa-Sonoma Vineyard Group offers comprehensive vineyard development services starting with site selection consultation, yield projections, site design and layout, clonal and rootstock selection based on site conditions, soil testing, obtaining permits, coordinating with other professionals, and suppling the customers financial projections for their lenders. Upon signing a contract, services expand to site preparation, planting, irrigation layout and design, as well as oversight of any contractors and installation of utilities. In addition, NSVG will work in coordination with outside contractors in the event of simultaneous construction projects.
Commercial Vineyard Replanting: NSVG can remove existing vineyards (generally due to disease) and replant them with improved rootstock. Extensive replanting of root stock is anticipated in Sonoma County over the next few years. Ninety percent of the vineyards have been replaced in Napa County due to concerns about phylloxera. At the same time, less than 25% of vineyards have been replanted in Sonoma County. In addition, Sonoma vines are aging and will need to follow Napa’s pattern in the next 5-10 years.
Small-Site Vineyard Development: NSVG can work with the small-site owner to realize their dream of an estate vineyard. This type of customer considers landscape aesthetics to be as important as their production and income potential.
Sustainable farming
NSVG can farm your vineyard organically or sustainably. We believe in sustainable agriculture and farm our home vineyard in this way. For us, sustainable agriculture means that we use the least invasive products that we can to get the job done. When an effective organic product is available for a problem, we will use it. For more information on sustainable farming practices please see: http://www.sarep.ucdavis.edu.
How much does it cost to develop a vineyard?
There are many factors that can affect the cost of developing a vineyard. How steep is your proposed site? How much rock is on site? How much erosion control is necessary? Are you more interested in creating an aesthetic landscape or a commercial farm? Although we would need to do an estimate on your site, our past projects suggest that we have been able to put in an average vineyard for $20-30,000 per acre.
